Forest Pennant architectural masonry
We supplied our Forest Pennant sandstone for the construction of a unique folly at a private residence in Gloucestershire to house the owners fowl. The Chicken House, a Palladian-style building, was built in our mixed colour and blue Forest of Dean Pennant.
We supplied a range of Forest Pennant products: the plinth stones and steps were worked by our masons whilst the columns, bases and cornice were turned and profiled on the Radia lathe. The tympanum was cut in the high-grade blue Pennant sandstone before being carved by hand, using a contract partner; carved features include chickens, eggs and Humpty Dumpty. The fine carving detail to the embellishments and columns caps was crafted by stonemasons from main contractor, Treasure & Son Ltd, who were also responsible for fixing the stone on-site.
It really is an extraordinary building - some very lucky Chickens!
